Account

1) In the context of bookkeeping, refers to the ledger pages upon which various assets, liabilities, income, and expenses are represented. 2) In the context of investment banking, refers to the status of securities sold and owned or the relationship between parties to an underwriting syndicate. 3) In the context of securities, the relationship between a client and a broker/dealer firm allowing the firm's employee to be the client's buying and selling agent.

Ledger
A book in which the accounts of a business are kept.

Liabilities
Money that a company will have to pay to someone else - bills, taxes, debts, interest and mortgage payments, etc.

Income
Money received by an individual as a salary, or from investments. Cash deposits and bonds will provide income in the form of interest. Shares will, in most but not all cases, provide income in the form of twice-yearly dividends.

Investment

1) Refers to an order to buy or sell that can be executed without confirmation for some fixed period. 2) A synonym for company.

Agent
The analysis of principal-agent relationships, in which one person, an agent, acts on behalf of another person, a principal.

Amounts due to an organization or individual from another for goods or services it has supplied.

Accounts receivable financing
A short-term financing method in which accounts receivable are collateral for cash advances.

Accounts receivable turnover
The ratio of net credit sales to average accounts receivable, which is a measure of how quickly customers pay their bills.
