Appreciation
AppreciationThe economic value of a company both as a continuing going concern and as a resource converter. Includes consideration of net asset value, breakup value, liquidation value, and replacement cost. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Value The worth or desirability of something expressed as an amount of money. Company A proprietorship, partnership, corporation, or other form of enterprise that engages in business. Asset Is the taxable basis of a property, imposed by the municipality. Often it is at a fraction of the market value. Liquidation 1) When a business or firm is terminated or bankrupt, its assets are sold and the proceeds pay creditors. 2) Any transaction that offsets or closes out a long or short position. Cost The opposite of revenue. An expense that reflects the price of purchasing goods, services and financial instruments. A cash cost means that cash is given up today to the purchase. Also, the purchase price of an investment, which is compared to the sale proceeds to determine capital gain or loss.
