Execution
ExecutionThe process of completing an order to buy or sell securities. Once a trade is executed, it is reported by a Confirmation Report; settlement (payment and transfer of ownership) occurs in the U.S. between one (mutual funds) and three (stocks) days after an order is executed. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Order Instruction to a broker-dealer to buy, sell, deliver, or receive securities or commodities that commits the issuer of the "order" to the terms specified. Securities Saleable papers, traded on stock exchanges, that yield an income (dividend, interest, etc.). Trade To buy and sell; buying and selling. Confirmation The written statement that follows any "trade" in the securities markets. Confirmation is issued immediately after a trade is executed, spelling out settlement date, terms, commission, etc. Report Written or oral confirmation that all or part of one's order has been executed, including the price and size parameters of the trade being reported; often followed by a fresh picture. Settlement When payment is made for a trade. Transfer A change of ownership from one person or party to another.
