Nominalism




Nominalism

The principle of keeping the amount of a debt obligation fixed despite fluctuations in the money's purchasing power or exchange rate.

In name only. Differences in compounding cause the nominal rate to differ from the effective interest rate. Inflation causes the purchasing power of money to differ from one time to another.

Nominal account
An account kept in a ledger which itemises revenue and expenditure such as sales and operating costs.

An effective rate per period multiplied by the number of periods in a year. Same as annual percentage rate.

Nominal cash flow
A cash flow expressed in nominal terms if the actual dollars to be received or paid out are given.

Nominal dollars

The actual foreign exchange quotation in contrast to the real exchange rate, which has been adjusted for changes in purchasing power.

The exercise price of a GNMA option contract, which equals the unpaid principal balance multiplied by the adjusted exercise price.

Nominal GDP
A gross domestic product (GDP) figure that has not been adjusted for inflation.

Nominal GNP
The figure for gross national product that does not allow for inflation.

Nominal income
Income that has not been adjusted for inflation and decreasing purchasing power.

Nominal interest rate
The interest rate unadjusted for inflation.

Nominal ledger
A ledger which contains the nominal accounts and real accounts of a company.

Nominal price
Price quotations on futures for a period in which no actual trading took place.

Nominal quotation
Used in the context of general equities. Bid and offer prices given by a market maker for the purpose of valuation, not as an invitation to trade.

Nominal value or par value
The price of a security (stocks, shares, bonds etc) when originally issued This bears no relation to the market price.

Nominal value or par value or face value
The amount written on a share certificates showing how much capital it represents.

Nominal yield
The income received from a fixed income security in one year divided by its par value.

Nominal yield of a bond
The rate of interest stated on the bond document.

Nominated adviser (NOMAD)
An exchange-approved adviser which helps companies to list on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), and which continues to advise them after flotation.

Nominated Broker (NOMBRO)
The broking firm for companies listed on the Alternative Investment Market which brings buyer and sellers of the company's shares together.

Nominee
A person or company holding securities for someone else who wants to remain anonymous.

Nominee account
An account in which the named holder holds the assets in it on behalf of another (the beneficiary).

Nominee company
A company formed by a bank or other organisation which operates nominee accounts that is, the holding of shares for the beneficial owner.

Nominee dividend
A dividend that a person receives on behalf of someone else.

Nominee interest
Interest that a person receives on behalf of someone else.

Nominee name
A name that is used by the corporation as a generic registered owner on a stock or bond certificate.
