Rehypothecation




Rehypothecation

Pledging to banks by securities brokers of the amount in customers' margin account as collateral for broker loans, which are used to cover margin loans to customers for margin purchases and selling short.

The amount above UNITY of a debt service ratio.

Short
One who has sold a contract to establish a market position and who has not yet closed out this position through an offsetting purchase; the opposite of a long position.
