Watch listA list of securities being monitored closely by a brokerage or exchange in order to spot irregularities. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Securities Saleable papers, traded on stock exchanges, that yield an income (dividend, interest, etc.). Exchange A marketplace in which shares, options and futures on stocks, bonds, commodities, and indexes are traded. Order Instruction to a broker-dealer to buy, sell, deliver, or receive securities or commodities that commits the issuer of the "order" to the terms specified. Wash traging An illegal stock trading practice where an investor simultaneously buys and sells shares in a company through two different brokers. Wasting asset Is a derivative instrument that may expire worthless after a stated time or event. Wasting assets Those which are gradually exhausted in production and cannot be replaced. Watch list Watered stock Stock that is issued with a value much greater than the value of the issuing company's assets. Weak dollar A depreciated dollar with respect to other currencies, meaning that more dollars are needed to buy a unit of foreign currency. Weak form efficiency A pricing theory that the price of a security reflects the past price and trading history of the security. Theory implies that security prices follow a random walk. Weak market A stock market where volume is low and the spread is high. Weakening Is a hedging or risk management term used to describe the relative loss of value between the underlying market and the hedge vehicle.
